Various plans for QuickBooks saw price increases across the board throughout 2026 – users on QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus or Mac Plus saw annual subscription pricing go up starting February 1, while QuickBooks Online saw a separate increase applied at renewals dated on or after August 1. These changes follow similar upsurges for different plans in previous years and seem to be tied to Intuit’s – the owner of QB – gradual transition to their IES (Intuit Enterprise Suite) platform as their flagship accounting product, promising Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) benchmarks of functionality versus the desktop-level features of QBD and QBO.
This article explores the current pricing per seat for the affected QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online plans, what this changes for your next renewal and how you can mitigate these increases:
2026 QuickBooks Pricing Comparison

August 2026 QuickBooks Online Price Increases
Intuit raised monthly pricing for QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus and Advanced plans coming up for renewal on or after August 1, 2026. Pricing for QuickBooks Free, Lite, Ledger and Simple Start remained the same. The published list prices now run $85 per month for Essentials, $140 per month for Plus and $340 per month for Advanced.
Intuit had already increased QB list pricing once before this round, so a subscriber who was current at $75, $115 and $275 saw an increase somewhere between 13 – 24 percent, while a subscriber who had not renewed since the prior list saw a much larger jump when both increases landed at once. The number that applies to you is in your own renewal notice and under Subscriptions and Billing in your account. Monthly subscribers will see the change on the first bill after August 1, businesses that prepaid an annual term generally hold their existing rate until that term ends and recent subscribers have a six-month protection window before the updated rate applies.
February 2026 QuickBooks Desktop Price Increases
Annual subscription pricing for various QuickBooks Desktop plans rose on February 1, 2026, or at the next renewal date for each subscriber after that point, applied across legacy products as well as most payroll add-on tiers. Pro Plus and Mac Plus went from $999 to $1149 for a single user, with each additional seat going from $200 to $230 per year. Premier Plus went from $1399 to $1609 for a single user, with additional seats at $345 per year. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Gold and Platinum subscribers also picked up a per-employee payroll fee billed monthly against the number of unique employees paid, and that fee accrues separately against every company file in the deployment.
Intuit stopped selling new Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus subscriptions after September 30, 2024. Renewals remain available to existing subscribers, but the products are closed to new purchases, so you are renewing something you would have no way to buy back if you let it lapse.
Comparing the QuickBooks Pricing Changes
QuickBooks Online Plus covers five users for $140 per month, which comes to $1680 per year. Five users on QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus cost $1609 for the first seat and $345 for each of the other four, or $2989 per year. QuickBooks Online charges one price per tier no matter how many of the included seats you actually use, while QuickBooks Desktop charges for every seat, so a single company running five users pays less on QuickBooks Online Plus.
However, QuickBooks Online holds each plan to a set volume of users, transactions and entities, and charges extra if you need to increase these benchmarks. Advanced is the largest tier and caps at 25 concurrent users, while QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise allows for up to 30 users on Silver, Gold and Platinum, and 40 on Diamond.
A business managing three entities might need to purchase separate QBO plans, making those same five users now cost $5040 per year instead of $1,680; Premier Plus stays at $2989 whether you keep one company file or a dozen. A distributor pushing thousands of invoices a month through Premier Plus pays nothing extra for the volume, while the same distributor on QuickBooks Online Plus either moves up to Advanced or pays for the headroom. A manufacturer with 30 people working in the software has nothing left to buy on the QuickBooks Online side, and the choice narrows to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise or a move to IES.
How the New QB Pricing Fits with the Intuit Enterprise Suite Launch
Intuit Enterprise Suite was launched as the new cloud product above QuickBooks Online Advanced in tier, built for multi-entity businesses that need consolidated reporting, deeper project costing and dimensional reporting that neither QuickBooks Online nor QuickBooks Desktop was designed to handle. Intuit positions it as the landing spot for existing Desktop users whose requirements have grown past what Advanced covers and describes it as an ERP platform rather than an accounting package.
Intuit does not publish IES pricing and quotes it per business instead. The platform runs each entity in its own instance and adds a separate consolidated instance that pulls them together for reporting, which is a different arrangement than the single company file a Premier Plus or Enterprise user works in now. Getting there means cleaning up your data, rebuilding your integrations and your reports, and retraining the people who use them, on the timeline of an ERP implementation rather than a plan upgrade.
What These Changes Say About Intuit’s Plans for QB Desktop
Intuit has not set an end-of-life date for QuickBooks Desktop, and the product kept receiving updates through 2026, including a tool for moving memorized reports into QuickBooks Online and a chart of accounts search that reads account descriptions. However, Intuit’s direct sales representatives stopped earning commission on QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise on August 1, 2026, years after the same change reached Pro and Premier. The sales team was rebuilt around geographic territories, with reps pointing customers toward whatever product fits their size and complexity, and Intuit put more people behind onboarding and adoption for QuickBooks Online Advanced and IES.
QuickBooks Desktop 2022 stopped receiving updates, payroll tax tables, bank feeds and official support on May 31, 2025. QuickBooks Desktop 2024 keeps receiving updates through 2027 and then loses the same things.
How Hosting QuickBooks Desktop Compares to QuickBooks Online
Hosting your QuickBooks Desktop application means running the same licensed software on a provider-managed server and reaching it through a browser or a remote session. The application, the company files and the integrations are the ones you already have.
Your February renewal arrives the same way whether the software sits on a server in your office or in a provider’s data center, and Intuit treats cloud hosting as a separate charge on QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. Hosting usually runs between $10 and $100 per user per month depending on the provider and how your environment is built, but below the Enterprise tiers many charge an average of around $40 – $50 per seat.
What you stop paying for is the server the software used to run on, as well as maintaining it or replacing it every few years, and storage, memory, users and bandwidth go up or down with what you use. You also keep the entity structure and the add-on integrations that made Desktop worth staying on, which is only part of what a migration to QuickBooks Online asks you to give up.
What Hosting Changes on the Logistics Side
Your hosting provider sets how often your company files are backed up and how long those copies are kept, and both are written into the agreement rather than decided for you. Administrators keep access to the server, so installing an add-on, changing a permission set or working through an integration problem happens on your schedule. Storage is added in set increments as your company files grow.
The server connects back to equipment in your office, which a multi-tenant SaaS (software as a service) platform will not do. A dedicated private server also gives businesses under strict security requirements, including government contractors, something they are able to put in front of an auditor.
A provider that handles managed IT and security alongside hosting covers the software, the server and the network under one agreement. A slow month-end close that could be any of the three goes to one team instead of three.
